Foreign investors purchased C$6.2 billion in Canadian securities in February 2026, a steep decline from the C$46.8 billion recorded in January. They divested C$9.2 billion in Canadian equities, driven largely by net sales of energy and mining shares (-C$9.4 billion). Their holdings of money market instruments fell by C$7.3 billion, reflecting reduced positions in both federal (-C$7.3 billion) and provincial (-C$3.5 billion) paper. In contrast, foreign investors added C$22.6 billion in Canadian bonds overall, including C$11.1 billion in corporate bonds, predominantly foreign-currency-denominated issues from Canadian financial institutions. Federal government bonds continued to see strong demand, attracting C$8.4 billion and extending the upward trend that began in the fourth quarter of 2025.
