17.04.202613:43:03UTC+00Ibovespa Rises on Strait of Hormuz Opening

The Ibovespa rose nearly 0.5% on Friday, moving above 197,500 points after Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz is open. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the passage is now fully accessible to all commercial vessels for the duration of the ceasefire. The news triggered a sharp drop in oil prices and a decline in bond yields, boosting banking shares and the broader market.

Among financials, Itaú and Banco do Brasil each advanced close to 2%, while Bradesco added about 2.5%. In the mining sector, Vale gained more than 1.5% after reporting resilient production and sales figures for the first quarter of 2026, prompting Itaú BBA to slightly raise its pro forma Ebitda estimate.

Utilities also performed well, with Axia and Eneva both climbing 3%. Other notable winners included Ambev (+1.5%), WEG (+1%), Embraer (+2.5%), and Rede D'Or (+2%).

In contrast, Petrobras dropped more than 4% as lower oil prices erased earlier gains tied to the company’s announcement that it had acquired a stake in offshore Block 3 in São Tomé and Príncipe.
