2026.09.1010:00:00UTC+00Hungary’s Consumer Sentiment Softens in September as PCSI Slips to 48.23

Hungarian consumer confidence edged lower in September, as the Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) dipped to 48.23, down from 48.60 in August 2026. The latest reading, updated on 10 September 2026, keeps the index just below the neutral 50-point threshold, signaling a modest deterioration in household sentiment on a month-over-month basis.

The month-on-month comparison shows that September’s “Actual” movement reflects a slight weakening versus August, when the “Previous” change had marked a marginally stronger position at 48.60 compared with July. While the decline is small, it suggests that Hungarian consumers have become fractionally more cautious heading into the autumn period, with sentiment still struggling to gain decisive upward momentum.
